Learn How to Use Bugle Beads with Two Jewelry Projects

View the Product Used in this Project

Recently I was reorganizing my room and found a box of bugle beads sitting quietly on my shelf. They are so shiny and beautiful but I have no idea how to use them! Luckily, nowadays learning becomes quite easy. In today's post, I want to share with you what I learned on bugle beads through two different beading projects.

Project 1: bugle beads bracelet

In the first project, we are going to use bugle beads to make a classic beaded bracelet. The stitch method used here is basic brick stitch

I used three different color bugle beads in the bracelet design to create a color gradient effect. Then added two rows of seed beads on each side using the same brick stitch. All the beads used in this project can be found in the "products used" section.

Step 1. Connect bugle beads using brick stitch

Step 2. Add seed beads using brick stitch

Project 2: Bugle Beads Earrings

In the second project, we are going to use bugle beads to create geometric earrings. If you get confused along the way, just remember this seemingly complicated shape is built upon five-sides polygon. All you need to do is keep creating five-sides polygon until there is no space for you to do so.

After the geometric shape was created, I also added the seed bead in the center of each polygon. The seed beads not only can hide the exposed thread in the center, but also provide extra support for the structure.

Here are the step-by-step images. I labeled the newly added beads in red for your clarity.

Step 1. Make a five-side polygon

Step 2. Make 5 five-sides polygons around the first one

Step 3. Make a five-sides polygon at the bottom

  • Trying to make the bracelet however the beads I’m using to make the rows on either side seem to be too big. Tried using a size 11 bead and then a size 12, both are too big. Using them causes the row of bugle beads to curve and not stay straight. What size did you use?
